On Sunday, May 18, 2008, a hit and run accident occurred in the 800 block of South Quincy Ave.

The registered owner of the run vehicle was contacted and stated she had sold the car and provided a phone number for the purchaser. The purchaser was contacted and stated he had sold the car to an unknown person a week or two earlier.

When selling a car to a private party, vehicle owners should always remove the license plates from the car and keep a copy of the signed bill of sale. Also, sellers should ensure that the car title is properly signed by both parties and keep a copy of the front and back of the signed title. According to the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles, a vehicle remains in the seller’s name until it is registered by the buyer.
